The theoretical lockup C6 will still have closer ratios than the E4OD, same as the non-lock C6 does, but the right converter can drastically reduce the RPM drop on upshifts, regardless of trans gearing. The E4OD is just a wide-ratio evolution of the C6, so I don't see any great improvements to strength, either. Save. Share.

I have a C6 in my truck, and will be doing some pretty heavy towing with it. 30ft 5th Wheel (7700lbs dry). I have been following the thread on the exhaust brake, and noticed the mention about the locking torque converter with a ground wire.

The design strategy and component hardware of the Ford RWD open (non-lock up) torque converters are basically all the same. Much of the components also carried over into the lock up converters as used in AOD - 4R70 and E4OD-4R100. A C6 7.3L Diesel was probably the most severe application, along with the 462 Lincoln.

I'm reinstalling a 390 to the existing c6 in my '64 Galaxie. After 8 hours, I can't seem to get the studs on the torque converter to line up with the holes on the flexplate. I'm pretty sure I have the torque converter fully engaged (3 clicks) but the studs hit the flexplate on install.
